It's A Whole New Water

We all know we should be drinking 8 glasses of water a day. Water is the best way to stay hydrated and it is used by the body to lubricate joints, regulate temperature, protect our organs, help our kidneys flush out toxins, hydrate the cells and detox our systems.

The problem is that water is quite boring. Sure it is refreshing on a hot day or after a run, but to drink it day after day after day gets, well, lets just say plain water doesn't have a lot of oomph!

Worry not, because you can still have your water and all of its benefits and change the taste up naturally with just a few ingredients. It's what they like to call spa water because it originated in spas years ago, but anyone can make their own spa water at home. It costs hardly anything and its quick and easy, but best of all it can be exactly how you want it, customized you may say, and with so many variations, you can love your water!

Now you may be wondering why we just don't throw a packet of pre-made water booster into our water, and the answer to that is that they come with a lot of added sugar and really wreck the benefit of your drink. Better to keep it natural and then you are only getting added nutrients from your ingredients and nothing your body doesn't need.

The oldest recipe for spa water is simply cucumbers. Yes, just cucumbers. You slice them up and the dance around in your water oozing out their nutritional value and mild yet exquisite taste. For a variation, throw in some lemon slices, lime slices, orange slices or how about all three?

Another great ingredient for water is tarragon as it is one of herbs with the most antioxidants. Float it in your drink with lemons, strawberries or watermelon for a wonderful tasting drink.

Lemon and rosemary. Pineapple and lemon, green apple slices and mint, green apple slices and cinnamon, any combination of berries you can think of, strawberries and kiwi. Simply wash and slice the fruits and let them steep in a pitcher or jug of cold water and enjoy.

To add even more flavour, use a green teabag and let that steep, then add watermelon cubes and you have yourself a great alternative to plain old water.

The fun comes with the experimentation, who knows what will be your fave?
