Let me get directly to the point! I love fruit- to me fruit is nature's candy!
When I was young and dumb to nutrition, diet and health, all the bodybuilders told me "stay away from fruit if you want to lose fat". You'll never get down to 3% body-fat eating fruit unless you are using steroids and pharmaceutical (speed) fat burners.
I said "no way, I love fruit!"
My favorite fruit is the Grapefruit.
Why?
For starters:
- At least half of a fresh grapefruit eaten before your meals is associated with a much improved insulin resistance. This is great for your health and overall well being.
- There is a powerful nutrient combination of fiber, potassium, lycopene, vitamin C and choline in grapefruit. This powerful combination helps to maintain a healthy heart.
- Grapefruit is also an excellent source of the strong antioxidant vitamin C as well as other antioxidants, grapefruit can help combat the formation of free radicals known to cause cancer. Lycopene intake has been linked with a decreased risk of prostate cancer prevention in several studies and foods high in vitamin C and beta-carotene have been shown to lower the risk of esophageal cancer in particular. Important for "older" muscle builders like myself.
- Grapefruit, because of its water and fiber content, helps to prevent constipation and promote regularity for a healthy digestive tract. As we age this is also very important, but also important at any age.
- As one of the most hydrating fruits in the world made up of 91% water (just below watermelon) and full of important electrolytes, grapefruit is a great snack to have on hand to prevent dehydration. This can also help with muscle spasms or muscle cramping.
I'll stop there because I think you understand my reason for adding grapefruit in my diet.
I believe that building health will automatically build a solid and muscular physique that you can be proud of. And best of all is that you'll have that great looking physique for a lifetime, not just for a few months.
Side note - I built my body up from a frail, skinny ectomorph frame using the methods in of natural bodybuilders from the past and then "Etched" my physique with the diet of well balanced foods that you would and or should consume everyday!
One of the biggest misconceptions in the world of diet and how to rid body-fat is that of "bad foods".
Bad Food - what's a bad food?
A bad food is a food that does not help you reach your goal of reduced body-fat, maybe even 3% body-fat.
Can and should you eat fruit when dieting down to get the ultimate "Etched Physique"?
My answer is "YES".
How can a natural food that is filled with an abundant supply of macro and micro nutrients be bad for you?
Well
If you are using steroids or other pharmaceutical compounds that's when.
Why?
Because drugs wreak havoc on the body's natural ability to function normally. Drugs throw the metabolism off and make it hard for the body to function in its natural muscle building fat burning capacity.
When this happens a person needs other drugs to counteract the negative effects from the drugs they are currently taking. What a mess!
Whenever I would get my body-fat down in the single digits I ate:
- Fruit's
- Fat's
- Carbohydrates
- Protein
And I had fruit at almost every feeding!
I know most people will tell you fruit is bad for you if you are trying to lose weight or burn off fat, but not me, I'll tell you that "too much" of any food will cause trouble if you put your metabolism out of balance.
